Ocean Park propelled by $30m government boost as Disneyland flounders
Finance Secretary Paul Chan pledged the financial assistance to boost the city's tourism.
Ocean Park is poised to stay afloat as the government has pledged to allocate $310m to support the theme park in developing education and tourism projects, according to Finance Secretary Paul Chan in his 2018 budget address.
“We strive to develop Hong Kong into a world-class premier tourism destination to ensure the healthy and sustainable development of the industry,” Mr Chan said, adding that the Ocean Park will distribute 10,000 free admission tickets to primary and secondary tickets in the coming year.
However, struggling competitor Disneyland is to receive no government assistance as it flounders after registering its third consecutive loss this year and proposals that will hit its planned expansion.
The government is also allocating an additional $396m for the tourism industry to implement the Development Blueprint released last year, Chan added in his budget address.
