Tourist arrivals up 11% to 5.3m in April

A continued recovery in Mainland tourism boosted monthly figures.

Tourist arrivals in Hong Kong rose 11% YoY to 5.3m in April, according to the tourism board, buoyed by expansion across major market areas.

The first three months of the year also witnessed improving visitor arrivals as tourism figures rose 9.6% YoY to 15.61m tourists in Q1.

Mainland tourism strengthened anew after posting double-digit growth at 15.2% to 4.06m in April, similarly accelerating the recovery of the local retail sector.

The number of tourists from The Americas also rose 5.3% to 182,383 in April. Close regional neighbors North Asia and Taiwan also posted improving visitor arrivals at 196,696 and 172,597 respectively.

However tourist arrivals from Australia, New Zealand & South Pacific dipped 5.4%. There were also less tourists from South & Southeast Asia; and Europe, Africa & the Middle East which declined 4.8% and 0.5% respectively.
