Hongkong Post taps online opportunities
Hongkong Post is working with online shopping and group-buying websites to provide a platform for merchandise delivery and counter collection, and cash-on-delivery services for them. Hongkong Post is also developing other new e-commerce-related business.
Postmaster General Clement Cheung noted that the Internet is creating a huge surge in e-commerce activities.
Over the decades, Hongkong Post has continually adapted to changing demands. It introduced the Speedpost express international courier service in 1973, for example. And in 1995, it morphed from a traditional government department into a trading fund.
Now, as the Internet has cannibalised the message-delivery business, it has also created new opportunities that Hongkong Post is keen to tap.
