Sunny Optical's shipment volume grows 35%
That is for the handset camera module.
According to Nomura, on 20 November 2012, Sunny Optical released its October shipment data. On the positive side, volume growth in its core handset camera module business remains on track, driven by strong smartphone shipments in China.
Here's more from Nomura:
On the negative side, the digital camera lens business is suffering from weak demand from Japanese clients.
In-house ratio of handset lens continues to decline due to faster upgrade of handset camera resolution. We reiterate our Buy recommendation on Sunny Optical for the China smartphone story post October data.
Major positives:
Handset camera module: shipment volume grows 35% y-y (9.7% mm) growth, benefiting from the rapid growth of smartphone shipments.
5MP upgrade on track: the percentage of 5MP and above camera modules declined slightly to 26%. But management indicated that this is due to the timing of revenue recognition, and expects the 5MP+ ratio to improve continuously over the next few months.
Other optoelectronic camera module: shipment volume underwent significant growth of 151.7% m-m, driven by mass production of smart TV video modules to major smart TV OEMs.
Major negatives:
Weak demand for digital camera lenses: strong sales to Korea customers (+22% in other lens) was not enough to offset weakness in Japanese customers (-30% in spherical lenses)
