Apple hits gold in Hong Kong
Gold-colored iPhone 5S quickly sells-out.
Media reports said that Apple’s gold iPhone 5S models were quickly bought up after online pre-orders began this Tuesday morning. The deluge of orders caused the Apple reservation page to go down but not before all three 5S colors (gold, silver and space gray) in every Apple store had been reserved.
The color of gold has become a badge of the country's newly wealthy that associate the color with China’s emperors.
A retailer said the gold iPhones could sell for at least HK$8,000, an HK$2,000 mark-up on the official price.
Apple's Hong Kong website on Wednesday took down the link to the 5S pre-order page, saying reservations would resume on September 21.
