NTT Com to open Hong Kong premium data center
Tseung Kwan O Data Center to become company’s biggest data center outside of Japan.
NTT Communications Corporation (NTT Com) announced on Thursday that it will open its new premium data center, the Hong Kong Tseung Kwan O Data Center, with commercial operation scheduled to start between January and March of 2013.
The new Tier lll (Tier lV-ready) facility will offer multinational customers high-quality, high-reliability and environmentally friendly data center services. As a sister facility of NTT Com’s Tai Po Data Center, also in Hong Kong, the new data center will fully meet the special needs of IT, financial and other companies that operate demanding, always-on communication infrastructure.
With 30,000 square meters of land space, the Tseung Kwan O Data Center will become NTT Com’s biggest data center outside of Japan, and located in the eastern side of Kowloon.
The NTT Com-designed facility will be constructed and operated by NTT Worldwide Telecommunications Corp., which specializes in the procurement and management of data centers worldwide for the NTT Com Group.
NTT Com’s premium data center will feature fully redundant commercial power supply, cooling systems, uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems, generators and distribution systems for possible power outages, and full systems for preventing fire and water damage. More than 20 KVA of power per rack will be available to meet the increasing needs of high-density, high-heat servers. The facility is expected to obtain globally recognized certifications for safety, efficiency and eco-friendliness, including the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) green-building rating system of the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC).
Points of presence for NTT Com’s Arcstar™ Global IP-VPN and Global e-VLAN services will be co-located within the Tseung Kwan O Data Center, enabling equipment and service backbone interconnections at relatively low costs. Multinational customers will be able to use NTT Com’s Inter-Data Connectivity Service, which offers a large-capacity backbone for high-speed, seamless rack-to-rack connectivity between core data centers in Singapore, Hong Kong, Japan and the United States, ensuring rapid data backup and fast application performance when multiple data centers are involved, according to an NTT Com report.
“This reflects the huge market demand for high-quality data centers, and also reaffirms Hong Kong’s edge as an international financial and communications hub,” said Takanobu Maeda, President and CEO of NTT Com Asia. “Our data center in Tai Po is expected to be fully occupied in the coming two years, so this new data center will further enhance our provision of seamless, top-standard data center services.”
