Telcos complete 5G enhancement in three areas
This was executed by four companies.
The government said fifth-generation mobile services (5G) radio base stations (RBSs) have been activated in the Convention & Exhibition Centre (CEC), AsiaWorld-Expo (AWE), and near Victoria Park.
According to the Office of the Communications Authority (OFCA), four mobile network operators completed the installation and activated the 5G RBSs at the three areas.
Specifically at the CEC and AWE, authorities noted that 4G network services were upgraded to 5G after the installation.
Meanwhile, installation works of 5G RBSs at the Central Harbourfront Event Space, Hong Kong Coliseum, and Kai Tak Sports Park are still ongoing. The 5G RBSs at the Central Harbourfront Event Space and Hong Kong Coliseum will be soon activated in phases, OFCA said.
The setting up of 5G RBS is part of efforts to implement the policy on enhancing 5G network capacity in major public event venues stated in the 2023 Policy Address.
“The sites mentioned are all major public event venues undergoing enhancement of 5G network capacity in the first phase,” the government said.
