What's on your mind: Facebook unveils most talked about topics in Hong Kong
Facebook has over 2.9m users in Hong Kong every day.
Typhoons as well as the triumphs and tribulations of local politicians, civil servants and artists topped the bill of the most talked about topics in Hong Kong according to Facebook’s annual Year In Review. Triumph in the Skies, a local TV drama series, the Hong Kong Marathon and animal abuse rounded out the top ten. In contrast, Pope Francis, Election and the Royal Baby top the bill according to Facebook’s global tally of most popular topics.
Jayne Leung, Head of Greater China at Facebook said, “every day, Facebook connects over 2.9 million users in Hong Kong to what is important to them. By ensuring they are able to connect and share the most important events of their lives, Facebook has become a part of people’s lives. It is this connection that we value most at Facebook.”
Typhoons struck a common chord with the masses in 2013 not only because of Typhoon Usagi, billed as the strongest typhoon to threaten Hong Kong in 34 years, but the devastation left by Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines.
Locally, Hong Kong Disneyland is joined by another popular theme park – our very own Ocean Park. They share this year’s Top 10 with five popular shopping/dining districts – Harbour City, Tsim Sha Tsui, Causeway Bay, Mong Kok and Wan Chai. Victoria Park, the Hong Kong Coliseum and the JW Marriott Hotel round out the top 10.
